Mind Development – Take the Passion For Your Area of Expertise and Apply it to a New Topic

Many folks spend 10 years or more in an industry and become an expert, and often when they change professions or retire their brain starts to deteriorate because they are no longer using it at the same level they were while they were working. This does not need to occur, and yet maybe there is a lesson here. Let me explain, because there is a solution to this very common problem and it is something I wish you to think about.

Mind Development is extremely important, because the brain is something that you are either strengthening, or allow it to slowly decay from inactivity. It’s just like a muscle, and you have no doubt heard someone say to you; “You either use it or you lose it!” This is why I often recommend to folks who are retired to find some other activity that they can put the same amount of brainpower towards, which they applied to their previous profession or job.

Perhaps it makes sense to join a volunteer group or effort, or find a new hobby or sport that can be intellectual taxing. If you are constantly learning new things and using your mind you will advance your ability to reason.

If you do not have a new found activity in your life, then take the passion for your area of expertise and apply that passion to a new topic of interest for a day or two, or even a subject that is not of interest, remember it’s only one day. The next day do it again, and again, and then watch your mind grow. Please consider all this because a mind is something you should not let decay over time.
